Our Neighbors
A city is only as a great as its people. Atlanta is blessed to have countless committed residents who care deeply about their neighborhoods and devote countless hours to making Atlanta a great place to live. These residents however, rarely get the recognition they deserve. As a small token of appreciation, we will recognize the selflessness and dedicated work of our neighbors.

Scott Smith - Westview Neigborhood

If one could locate a definition of "tireless neighborhood leader", they would likely find a picture of Scott Smith. Smith has committed himself to the betterment of Atlanta's historical Westview Neighborhood, where he has lived with partner Mark since 2001. By day, an 18-year veteran in service sales for IBM, after work, serves as the Secretary for NPU-T, Housing Code Enforcement Liaison for NPU-T, Vice President for the Westview Community Organization, member of the 30310 Mortgage Fraud Task Force and a neighborhood deputy. But his commitment to community does not stop there. Scott also serves as a member of the hosta society and orchid society, sings in the choir at St. Mark United Methodist Church and serves as singer, staff member and board member emeritus of the William Baker Choral Foundation.

Scott has an inspirsing and unrelenting passion for Westview and is committed to seeing it become another one of Atlanta's crown jewel-neighborhoods. Scott stated, "I firmly believe that change starts at home and the only way to effect the positive direction of the community is to stay informed and get involved. I can't look at an area of concern and just say "someone should do something." When I see something that's needed to be done, I either do it, get others to help or I contact those with the responsibility to get it done."

Scott is one of many Atlanta residents who commit themselves to making Atlanta a world class city marked by vibrant, thriving neighborhoods. Scott's dedication and passion is a humbling and inspiring reminder reminder to all Atlantans that we each make a difference in our neighborhood.

Scott recently invited Amir to Westview to spend time understanding its strengths and needs. They spent several hours walking through Westview while discussing code enforcement, economic development, housing foreclosures and public safety. Scott's passion for Westview had a marked effect on Amir, as he quickly saw the untapped potential of an area ripe with history and beautiful homes but lacking the city services and economic development necessary for Westview to return to glory. Amir is committed to not only protecting Atlanta's neighborhoods but also working tirelessly to make sure that every neighborhood gets the timely services and support it needs from the City and working with neighborhoods to attract economic and cultural growth unique to each neighborhood.

Scott comment on Amir's potential candidacy:

"I think that Atlanta's At-Large council members have a unique challenge. Unlike the district-oriented council members, the At-Large members must focus on issues that impact the entire city rather than those which may be of unique concern to the individual district members. I believe that this broader vision will serve Amir Farokhi well in his future work as an At-Large member of the Atlanta City Council. He cares, he is asking the right questions and he will be an excellent fit for Post 2."
